Dear Parents:
We will be having try-outs for our Girls U-13 Full Throttle
Travel Summer team on March 26th and 28th. All Harborfields
Lacrosse Club members, currently in 6th or 7th Grades are encouraged
to try out for the team.
The goals of this program are to provide a competitive alternative
to the athletes playing for the Club who want to play additional
games beyond the spring season and to the extent possible, allow
all these boys and girls to continue to develop as a cohesive
group.
As you are aware, there are many summer lacrosse tournaments
on Long Island (and elsewhere) and many more “Select” Teams
that provide opportunities for children to play in these tournaments. What
we have done with this program is allow the Athletes of the HLC
the opportunity to play at this level with the teammates that
they will be playing with in the future. Additionally, we want
to minimize expenses for the families in the community looking
for that level of competition for their children. As you
would expect, not everyone can participate in this program, as
many as 60 might be trying out for approximately 20 spots.
COACH:
The Team will be selected and coached by Katy Hahn. Katy is
a 1997 Graduate of Harborfields High School and was Captain and
the MVP of her Varsity team. Katy went on to play lacrosse
at the University of Delaware where she was a three time all
conference selection as well as a captain, MVP and Regional All-American
in 2001. Katy is currently the Varsity field hockey coach
at Harborfields High School and coached lacrosse at Bay Shore
High School from 2002–2008. This past fall Katy was
enshrined on the Harborfields High School Athletic “Wall
of Fame” and we are thrilled and fortunate to have her
coach this team.
PRACTICES:
The players selected for the team will practice at least one
evening a week starting in June.
TRY-OUT DETAILS:
As indicated above the Try-outs will be held on March
26 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm and on March 28 from 9:00am – 11:00am. The
Try-outs will take place rain or shine and will be held on
a turf field at Manor Field Park - On E. 5th Street between
Park Avenue and Lenox Road (next to Armory). Players
are required to bring all equipment including a reversible
pinny.
Registration -NOW CLOSED
COST AND EXPECTATIONS:
Depending upon the number of players selected, we anticipate
that the cost for the U13 Girls Team will be between $400 and
$500 to pay for coaches, tournament fees and uniforms. There
will be a need for a hotel stay for the UMASS tournament but
that is the only additional coast anticipated. While the
cost of our program is considerably less then some other “for-profit” summer
programs (which can run as high as $2000), we do understand that
even at this price it is a financial commitment. We do
not want cost to be a limiting factor for anyone; we want the
best players to play period. So if your child makes the
team and there are special circumstances we will help you to
make it work.
It’s expected that Girls selected for the team participate
in all practices and tournaments, with the only valid excuses
for absences being planned family vacations.
Full Throttle activities will not interfere with HLC Club games
or practices nor will they conflict with Oldfields Middle School
Games/Practices.
Please direct any questions to your applicable grade coordinator.
Sincerely, HLC Board |
