Dear Parents:
We will be having try-outs for our Boys U-11 Full Throttle Travel
Summer teams in late April or early May. All Harborfields Lacrosse
Club members, currently in 4th or 5th Grades are encouraged to
try out for the team.
The goals of this program are to provide a competitive alternative
to the athletes playing for the Club who want to play additional
games beyond the spring season and to the extent possible, allow
all these boys and girls to continue to develop as a cohesive
group.
As you are aware, there are many summer lacrosse tournaments
on Long Island (and elsewhere) and many more “Select” Teams that
provide opportunities for children to play in these tournaments.
What we have done with this program is allow the Athletes of
the HLC the opportunity to play at this level with the teammates
that they will be playing with in the future. Additionally, we
want to minimize expenses for the families in the community looking
for that level of competition for their children. As you would
expect, not everyone can participate in this program, as many
as 80 might be trying out for approximately 20 spots.
COACHES:
This year the Team will be selected and coached by Dave Bennardo
who is currently the Principal at Harborfields High School. Dave
Started out as an assistant lacrosse coach at Bethpage High School
and then moved on to serve as the head lacrosse coach at New Hyde
Park High School in the 1990's where he was named conference coach
of the year in 1996. Dave left coaching in the late 1990's to
begin his administrative career but has remained active in youth
lacrosse by coaching with the Hills Lacrosse program, the Long
Island Express and as a Full Throttle Coach for Harborfields last
year. Dave will be assisted by one or two recent Harborfields
Grads who currently are playing lacrosse in college. We are fortunate
to have Dave volunteer his time for us.
PRACTICES:
The players selected for the team will practice at least one
evening a week starting in June.
TRY-OUT DETAILS:
As indicated above the Try-outs will be held in late April or
early May, all players must register at the link below by April
15th 2009.
Registration -NOW CLOSED
All players who register will be notified of the try-out dates,
via email at least a week prior to the try-outs. Participation
in the try-outs will require all equipment including a reversible
pinny, the attached consent form and a $20 try-out fee in cash
or check made out to Harborfields Lacrosse Club.
COST AND EXPECTATIONS:
Depending upon the number of players selected, we anticipate
that the cost for the U11 Boys Team will be between $250 and $350
to pay for the college coaches, tournament fees and uniforms.
While the cost of our program is considerably less then some other
“for-profit” summer programs (which can run as high as $2000),
we do understand that even at this price it is a financial commitment.
We do not want cost to be a limiting factor for anyone; we want
the best players to play period. So if your child makes the team
and there are special circumstances we will help you to make it
work.
It’s expected th at Boys selected for the team participate in
all practices and tournaments, with the only valid excuses for
absences being planned family vacations.
Full Throttle activities will not interfere with HLC Club games
or practices.
Please direct any questions to your applicable grade coordinator.
Sincerely, HLC Board
